LENT 2017

2nd Sunday of Lent

Join JRS as we journey with Mourad, as he flees from the Algerian war.

12 March 2017

2nd Sunday of Lent

From today’s responsorial psalm reading:

May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you.

 Psalm 32(33)

Over the weeks of Lent, we are introducing you to a number of the refugee friends JRS accompanies. We invite you to walk with them and share in their hope.

Feel God’s loving gaze upon you today.

Mourad’s Story – Part 1

Algeria’s violent civil war lasted ten years, and was particularly brutal towards civilians. Mourad worked as a taxi driver and had a normal life, “like anyone else”. When the war started, life became difficult. People were dying every day.

When he was on the night shift one evening he was attacked in his taxi. His money and his taxi – his sole source of income – was stolen. He awoke from a coma two weeks later suffering from severe amnesia.

It was no longer safe for Mourad to live in Algeria and he fled to the UK, in search of freedom and security.

Read the next stage of Mourad’s journey tomorrow.
