"I am homeless"

08 March 2017

Wednesday of the 1st week of Lent, 8 March
International Women’s Day

From today’s first reading:

“Men and beasts, herds and flocks, are to taste nothing; they must not eat, they must not drink water”

Jonah 3: 7

Over the weeks of Lent, we are introduing you to a number of the refugee friends JRS accompanies. We invite you to walk alongside them.

Can you hear the cry of the poor through them?

Florence’s Story – Part 4

When Florence’s application to the Home Office was refused, life became increasingly difficult. On learning that she was gay, the Pastor of her church told her she was no longer welcome. Florence became homeless again and struggled to find support.

the people send me outside, I am homeless and no one likes to give me accommodation”

Read the next stage of Florence’s journey tomorrow.

Organise a collection

Things are getting worse for the refugees JRS UK accompanies. The government is seeking to make life harder still and we are seeing an increasing number of pregnant women and young families looking for support.

On International Women’s Day could you #BeBoldForChange and donate some of the basic items young families are in need of? Nappies, baby wipes, baby clothes and towels would be invaluable to young families, alongside donations of larger items such as prams and toys.

Perhaps this is something your Parish or School could organise as part of your Lenten almsgiving?
Remember to contact JRS UK (or your local refugee organisation) before sending your donations. Small organisations, like JRS UK, often struggle for space to store and organise donations, ensuring donations are distributed fairly.
