Have you always wanted to run a marathon? Missed out on the ballot? JRS UK has places for the 2017 London Marathon!
Have you always wanted to run the London Marathon? This is the perfect opportunity to give some direction to those New Year’s resolutions and to tick an item off your bucket list in one go!
The London Marathon is on Sunday 23rd April 2017. We’ll be with you every step of the way as you train for the marathon and reaching your £2,000 fundraising target, with the money you raise going straight to accompanying destitute refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
Ok, I’m interested – What next?
We are partnering with our friends at Jesuit Missions to have one team at the Marathon. You will be a part of a team of up to 30 runners who you can connect with to form a community of support and sharing the experience of training for a marathon.
Join our marathon team for 2017!
What Support will I get from JRS UK?
You will receive regular emails from us and Jesuit Missions with fundraising ideas, help with setting up your fundraising page, tips on training and most importantly, encouragement! We will do all that we can to support you both in the run up to the marathon on marathon day itself.
If you feel that you are up for the challenge this amazing experience presents, get in touch with Megan at JRS UK for more information.
Where will the money I raise go?
The money you raise will go directly to supporting destitute refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
JRS UK relies on donations from individuals to support our work with destitute asylum seekers through our Day Centre and hardship fund, assisting our refugee friends with their basic needs. We provide a transport grant to enable people to travel to the day centre and to attend immigration, medical and legal appointments. We provide a monthly hygiene pack with essential items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and sanitary towels. Travel grants and hygiene packs are given to those asylum seekers who do not receive benefits or asylum support. We also offer small grants for educational needs and sometimes assist with exceptional needs.
As a runner with JRS UK you will receive:
regular e-mails, containing fundraising advice and updates on our work
fantastic cheering support and snacks along the course
an awesome running vest
pre-race pasta party
post-marathon party – with showers, massage and refreshments a plenty!
Still need convincing?
Read what previous Jesuit Missions runners have to say about the experience:
“The experience of feeling a part of a team, of running for a truly worthwhile cause, of being looked after from the early training, through to dinner the night before, the support on the day, invitations to the ‘After’ party, the pats on the backs, and the photos – have made this one of the best days of my life –thank you, thank you very much” – Ben Smith
“I am really impressed by the amount of time and effort all the supporting team did put to make us feel comfortable. The big applause really goes to you all. It has been an incredible and personally rewarding experience for me, where the time result was of secondary importance and the main takeaway was the team spirit I found there, the great cause we run for and great people I met.” – Nacho Pedraz
