Please help provide a warm welcome and hot food for refugee friends
£40 could provide a refugee friend with a monthly grant for bus travel. You’ll enable them to get to our weekly Day Centre, as well as meetings with a legal advisor.
£100 could help provide refugee friends with a pack of toiletries, including soap and shampoo. We distribute 200 packs each month.
£191 could provide all the food needed to cook a hot nutritious meal for 120 refugee friends at our Day Centre.
£382 could cover the costs of two weeks of food, which is prepared at our Day Centre.
“Compassion strikes the most sensitive chords of our humanity, releasing a vibrant urge to ‘be a neighbour’ to all those whom we see in difficulty.”
This Advent, please give generously to help support people who have come to the UK seeking sanctuary, and have been left destitute by a cruel and unjust asylum system.
Through no fault of their own, they’re not permitted to work and they’re not eligible for state support. They have nothing to live on, and rely on friends for a sofa to sleep on.
No one should have to live like this in our society.
Your gift today will help support our weekly Day Centre where refugee friends receive a warm welcome. They can share a hot meal, and receive a grant for bus travel and a supply of toiletries. Legal advice is available, as are activities including art and cooking.
This Christmas, we will open our doors to more than 240 refugee friends.
Juliet came to the UK ten years ago in search of sanctuary. A decade on, she has been left destitute, with no right to work or to receive support from the state.
“Sometimes you think, ‘Why am I waiting so long so?’ The waiting is really hard. The hardest part is accommodation. You’re always scared to find yourself on the streets.”
Juliet draws strength from her faith and her friends.
“When I was in the dark, I had my faith. I was praying to God. I just have to trust. Friends and God – they are the most important.”
To people like Juliet, JRS is a friend.
“When you come to the Day Centre on Thursday, you see people are always smiling. It’s not just about the physical support, it is also about how people are welcoming us, how they make you feel. You show you care.”
