The Jesuit Refugee Service in the UK is recruiting a Casework and Support Manager
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced casework manager to join our friendly and welcoming team providing support to destitute asylum seekers. We are looking for someone with a deep commitment to our relational, holistic way of working who will oversee our provision of advice and support in the areas of housing, asylum support, welfare, health access and mental health. The post would suit someone who is OISC registered, with significant experience of supporting people with insecure immigration status, experience of line managing staff and volunteers, supervising casework and coordinating work on complex cases across teams. The postholder will need high levels of emotional intelligence, pastoral sensitivity, and a reflective approach to their work, in addition to depth of knowledge of the asylum system and relevant housing, health and social care landscape.
In addition to undertaking their own casework and managing others to do the same, the postholder will also be responsible for a network of volunteers providing emotional support to refugees by phone. This will be developed later into an in person network providing accompaniment to refugees for appointments and other initiatives.
JRS UK provides a diverse range of services to around 350 destitute asylum seekers in the London area, including a day centre, activities encouraging peer support, a hosting scheme, accommodation project and immigration legal advice. While face-to-face services are temporarily suspended owing to COVID, we adapted rapidly to provide advice and support by phone and online and take emergency support onto the road through in person delivery. The postholder will initially work from home, providing advice and support by phone, but as the COVID public health situation changes, we will begin a phased return to providing face-to-face services. The postholder will need a highly flexible approach to adapt service delivery according to the shifting circumstances.
JRS UK is a Catholic organisation and our work is rooted in Catholic social teaching and imbued with the spirituality of the Jesuits. But we serve people of all faiths and none without proselytising or favour. Our staff and volunteer teams are diverse and include people from many different faiths, nationalities, and generational backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from people with personal experience of the asylum system.
