For this year’s Refugee Week’s theme of ‘Our Home‘, JRS UK Volunteer Abi, reflects on the importance of reconnecting with our bodies through mindful movement and restorative practices.
Our bodies of bones and breath are our loyal homes. They allow us to experience pain, pleasure and instinct, they carry us everywhere we go as our story unfolds. When we lose our connection to our bodies, we lose access to an anchor of safety and grounding. When we are given the space to feel safe, to rest and breathe deep, we have the chance to be centred in the home of our bodies and to be more present with those around us.
I love sharing mindful movement, simple breathing practices and restorative rest at JRS UK, it presents friends with the opportunity to explore their own sense of embodiment and to come home to themselves. Being together with JRS refugee friends is the highlight of my month, I hope that everybody that joins our mindful movement circles leaves feeling more mobile, rested and restored!
Well-being services provided by Abi and other volunteers here at JRS UK are essential in creating a supportive and healing community for refugee friends. Thank you to Abi and all our volunteers for their support and dedication. Together, we continue to create a solace and safe space for those we support.
