Dear friends and supporters of JRS,
We invite you to pray with refugees this Advent. Our refugee friends, volunteers and staff have collaborated to prepare resources for prayer during this season, which we hope inspire you and offer you space to reflect alongside refugees.
The first is our Online Advent Calendar, written by our refugee friends. We’ll be sharing this on our social media channels daily. We’ve shared our refugee friends’ words and voices with you directly; many of the prayers echo the beautiful spoken and sung prayer traditions our friends come from. As Pope Francis acknowledges in this year’s message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2022, different expressions of prayer help us to experience our faith more deeply, so we hope this is a refreshing resource this season. In particular, we’d like to say a special thank you to our Women’s Prayer Circle for sharing their intentions with us.
The second resource is a series of reflections for the Mass readings of the Sundays of Advent and Christmas Day. These have been thoughtfully prepared by volunteers from across JRS, incorporating their experiences of walking alongside refugee friends. Each Saturday we’ll send you an email with the reflection for Sunday.
Thank you for praying alongside us. Knowing that we are united in prayer, and that our refugee friends are not forgotten this Advent, is so powerful, and strengthens us in our mission to accompany, to serve as companions, and to advocate alongside and for the rights of refugees and the forcibly displaced.
