From Today’s Daily Mass Readings:
Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose.”
Throughout Lent we invite you to listen to the stories of refugees accompanied by JRS. Where might you be able to offer repose to those in need?
Koffi’s Story
Our At Home scheme provided Koffi with some stability at a time which was otherwise fraught with uncertainty. However, our refugee friends do move between hosting communities, which can sometimes be difficult for them. “… moving is stressful … I start to worry about where and when.”
Despite these anxieties, Koffi also sees the benefits of living with different host communities, “Another side is to experience different place, new experience, new person.”
As Koffi now prepares to move to a new hosting community, he explains how his previous experiences make him feel more comfortable moving forward: “I feel more confident each time … I refuse to worry, I keep hope.”
#Do1Thing
Koffi’s story shows us the joys that volunteering can bring to people’s lives. If you have a spare room that is currently vacant in your house then consider opening your home to a refugee for a short term placement.
JRS UK is just one of many charities that run hosting schemes for refugees and asylum seekers. If you are based around greater London and would like to host for us then please do get in touch. If you live outside greater London and would like to host, we invite you to search out hosting projects in your area.
If you are unable to host, perhaps you know someone who can? If so, please pass on this information about hosting to them.
