Each day, it is impossible to miss the increasing number of Christmas decorations popping up around our shops, streets and homes as we prepare for Christmas. Christians around the world also begin to prepare for the upcoming celebrations as we approach the season of Advent. Advent is marked by expectant waiting, something that is all too familiar for our refugee friends at JRS. Whether its waiting for updates from the Home Office about their asylum claim or waiting in the hope that they will be released from immigration detention.
This Advent, JRS UK invites you to accompany the refugees with whom we work through our weekly Advent reflections. Each reflection will look at the scripture readings from Sunday Mass, focusing on the themes traditionally attributed to each week of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy and Love, as well as some of the things our refugee friends at JRS encounter on a daily basis. They are a resource for those who are perhaps looking for an aid to prayer during their spiritual observances this Advent.
The reflections have been written by staff and volunteers who have first-hand experience of accompanying our refugee friends at JRS. Each reflection draws on the relationships that they each have with our refugee friends, and brings together all members of the JRS family: At Home hosts, Day Centre volunteers, Detention Outreach volunteers and staff.
