We are delighted to invite you and your loved ones to our annual Advent Service that will take place this year on Tuesday 7th December, 7pm at Farm Street Church.
After a long year and a half where we have been physically separated due to the pandemic, we are excited at the prospect of gathering for what is always one of the highlights of the year. The service will feature Advent carols, readings of scripture and poetry, as well as the return of our ever-popular JRS drama group.
Bishop Paul McAleenan, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster and the lead Bishop on issues facing migrants and refugees, will lead and speak at our service. Bishop Paul is a firm supporter of JRS UK and we have worked closely with him for the past few years as he continues to speak out in support of refugees. We are delighted to once again welcome him to lead the celebrations.
The JRS ‘Hopes and Dreams’ drama group will perform live during the service. The group recently re-started meeting in person at the JRS centre in Wapping, after 18-months of online drama workshops. Their workshops this term centre around the topic of storytelling.
Beth Organ, the group’s facilitator explains, “we looked at how we are all storytellers in our daily lives, telling true stories and made-up stories, and using our imagination. In the upcoming sessions we’ll be focusing on the different ways we can tell stories in a dramatic and performative way through poetry, non-verbal movement, songwriting and music, group prose, freeze frames, cultural themes (fairytales), forum theatre, soundscapes and improvisation. We will bring all of these ideas together to form our advent performance.”
Unfortunately, due to COVID we will be unable to host refreshments after the service.
Please do bring along your loved ones for a very special occasion!
The Advent Service will also be Live Streamed through the Farm Street Church Live Stream.
