Archbishop John Wilson visits the Jesuit Refugee Service UK

Archbishop John Wilson, Archbishop of Southwark, highlighted the Church’s commitment to welcoming and supporting refugees and people seeking sanctuary in the UK during his visit to the Jesuit Refugee Service on Tuesday 25th November.

Archbishop John Wilson said:

The Lord Jesus and his saving Gospel calls us to welcome the stranger, listening to their stories with love and compassion. As we approach Advent, a season of hope, let’s remember that it is in welcoming those in need that we encounter the face of Christ.

I am deeply grateful for the work of JRS UK, which puts the boundless love of Christ into action, and offers hope where it is most needed.

Dr David Ryall, Director of JRS UK, said:

Archbishop’s John’s visit is a powerful and welcome sign of solidarity at a time when many vulnerable people needing sanctuary face uncertainty, hardship, and even hostility, and an affirmation of JRS’s mission to accompany refugees and help uphold their dignity.

Archbishop Wilson met refugees supported by JRS UK, volunteers, and staff who work to provide accompaniment, advocacy, and practical assistance to those facing destitution and isolation.
