On Tuesday 27th November, JRS UK will be holding an open evening for those who want to learn more about the At Home hosting scheme. The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the project, for anybody to ask any questions they may have about hosting, and to hear from an experienced host who has welcomed several guests through At Home.
One of the greatest challenges faced by the refugees accompanied by JRS is lack of accommodation. Unable to rent property, destitute refugees must rely on friends or family to take them in, or else spend the night on public transport or sleeping on the streets. The JRS UK At Home hosting scheme organises short-term placements for refugees, providing a small amount of stability at an otherwise uncertain time. As the weather gets colder, the need for safe accommodation becomes even more desperate.
This is an open information evening in which all questions about hosting are welcomed. If you have a spare room in London, if you would consider opening your home to provide a warm and welcoming environment to a destitute asylum seeker, or you just want to learn more about hosting, please do come along.
The meeting will run between 6:30 and 7:30 pm (arrivals from 6 pm) on Tuesday 27th November at the JRS UK offices in Wapping: The Hurtado Jesuit Centre, 2 Chandler Street, London, E1W 2QT. Refeshments will be provided.
We look forward to seeing you there.
