Join us to celebrate Refugee Week with a special showcase event from our Open Writing Space group. We will be joined by poet & writer, and the group’s facilitator Laila Sumpton, Dallya Alhorri, JRS UK’ Activities Coordinator, and our refugee friends from the group.
Join us on Wednesday 16th June between 18:30 – 19:30 for our Open Writing Space Showcase.
The members of the group will be performing some of their pieces of poetry and creative writing, as well as sharing the influences and stories behind them. There will be a chance for you to join in some interactive activities which are similar to those used by the group to share ideas and have fun in their sessions, all of which have been taking place on Zoom during the pandemic.
Refugee Week is all about celebrating the creativity, gifts and contributions of refugees. This event is the perfect opportunity to do just that. We will be looking at some of the themes the group has explored in their sessions: Home, People, Future, Peace, Recipes – exploring the diverse personalities ad backgrounds of our refugee friends and the encounter of cultures that can take place through our creativity.
We will also be launching our Open Writing Space book which will be available for purchase on our Refugee Gifts page.
