Help support our brand new Community Kitchen Project

JRS Community Kitchen

At the beginning of June, JRS will be launching a new 8-week project for our refugee friends; our Community Kitchen. Each week, this recipe sharing group will be led by one of our refugee friends as they teach everyone one of their favourite recipes. Matilda, Refugee Activity Coordinator at JRS UK, said, “Not only will this project be nourishing for our bellies, but it will also help us foster a sense of community. We hope that by taking it in turns to lead the group, our refugee friends will be able to develop their facilitation skills and it will encourage a feeling of empowerment for the group members.”

“For many of us, food is such an important thing, whether it is because cooking is relaxing or certain meals remind us of family and friends. We will be learning to bake and cook delicious recipes from around the world as well as having the opportunity to have fun and make friends.”

In order for us to start our community kitchen we need to make sure our kitchen is kitted out with all the right equipment. Our community kitchen will be welcoming 10 of our refugee friends into the kitchen and we’re looking for donations of new and used kitchen utensils to get them started.

Our Community Kitchen needs:

10 of the following:

Cupcake tray
Large oven tray
Metal Whisks
Wooden Spoons
Wooden Spatula
Muffin cases
Rolling pin
Cake tins

And 5 of each:

Frying pans
Weighing Scales
Cooling rack
Icing Nozzles
