Running the London Marathon for refugees

20 September 2022

In less than 2 weeks, on 2nd October JRS’s Accommodation and Emergency Response Manager -Rhiannon, will  run the London Marathon 2022 to raise money for JRS UK.

Rhiannon says that she is running to achieve something she has always wanted to do, and to support a better welcome for refugees. During the very long training sessions, she remains motivated by knowing that she is raising money to strengthen the support JRS provides to refugee friends.

Any of us could become a refugee. And I think that in this country, our government’s policies do not promote integration and success of refugees, and they actively prevent them from reaching their full potential and rebuilding their lives.  I have seen the great things that refugees can achieve with the right support which is why I am raising money to fund the services that JRS provides.

“I’m excited about seeing my friends and family and other supporters from JRS along the course and also the atmosphere of everyone coming together for the race.  I am very nervous about the last 6-8 miles, hoping I will have enough energy and determination to keep going.”

Rhiannon will be running the London Marathon on the 2nd of October for JRS UK. The money she raises will help JRS to continue to accompany destitute and detained refugees in a spirit of hospitality, welcome and love.
