Being able to accompany someone in Detention, befriending and supporting them, can make a difference during a terrible time.

Detention is harmful to physical and mental health and causes long-term trauma. Many of those detained arrived in the UK seeking sanctuary after experiences of torture. Being detained causes them to re-live previous experiences.

AVID Detention provides training, advice and support to visitors groups across the country, working with over 550 volunteer visitors who give their time to befriending people held in immigration detention.
