JRS UK is currently looking for new volunteer hosts to join our ‘At Home’ hosting scheme which facilitates short-term hosting placements in London for our refugee friends at high risk of street homelessness.
Join us from 18:30-19:15 on Tuesday 11th August on Zoom for a discussion with Naomi, At Home’s coordinator.
Register in advance, to attend the meeting online:
The scheme sees hosts with a spare room in London welcome refugees for a period of three months, with support and assistance provided by JRS. Opening your home to a refugee in need is an incredible way of helping someone in need, which has a transformative effect on both the guest and host alike. Understandably, people often have many questions they would like to have answered before joining up as a hosts.
“They showed me acceptance and love… unconditional love. I felt like a part of the family”
– A refugee friend of JRS
This evening will see Naomi explain how the scheme works, we will hear from a current host about their experiences and have time to ask any questions you might have about the scheme. Many of our friends who have been in temporary accommodation in response to the coronavirus pandemic are now facing the prospect of a return to the streets, so the need for new hosts is great. Read Naomi’s moving blog about the reopening of the scheme here.
We hope it will be an informative evening that will make you feel excited and enthusiastic about the prospect of hosting. Please do come along to find out more and consider if you may be able to provide a place of welcome a refugee.
When: 18.30 – 19.15 on Tuesday 11th August 2020
