Many refugees find themselves being detained indefinitely, with no knowledge of when they will be released. The trauma of this uncertain imprisonment takes a great physical and emotional toll, even after people have left detention.
Today, if you are able, why not buy a refugee gift and support our Detention outreach in Harmondsworth and Colnbrook IRCs? You could sponsor a phone call to a refugee in detention, or donate to our post-Detention support.
A network of volunteers and staff regularly ring a refugee friend to chat, provide encouragement and offer support. Some of our team also go on site to assist detained peoples access help and translation services.
The JRS Post-Detention Support Group offers a regular, safe space to share experiences outside of detention with peers, and find support to navigate their way after being released.
If you live in West London and are interested in volunteering in Detention outreach, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us at uk@jrs.net.
